Born Ugly approached my University in my final year of study to provide us with a live brief.

BRIEF: Sell the Un-sellable. How can you give something that is free and readily available a monetary value? 

INSIGHT: Children these days consume endless amounts of rubbish that is unhealthy, addictive and negative for their well-being. This is through no fault of their own, because at that age, they don’t know any better. Parents are uneducated and naive to what their kids are consuming, leading to a downwards spiral of their little heart-melters. 

SOLUTION: Sell a product aimed towards children, that is so obscene, so immoral and down-right illegal. The idea would be for the kids to pick these up in a supermarket, and put them in the trolley during a family shop. Once they get home, the parents would see what these actually were and have a heart-attack as to what their kids are consuming - leading to a ripple effect of them having to check everything else that their kids are consuming. The real thing I would be selling is information and complacency. I also created an accompanying awareness campaign using real statistics of detrimental things that children are already exposed to.
